QUESTIONNAIRES ANALYSIS
Research Background and Issues
The goal of the survey was to “get a better understanding of the current state of teaching and to help inform future teaching”. However, the responses were not always accurate, as they did not distinguish between different students’ motivations for learning.
Research Objective
The aim of this project is to define the motivation to learn based on the ARCS motivation model, and to establish and implement a method to quantify the respondents’ motivation to learn based on the results of a class questionnaire.

Achievements to Date
Using the ARCS Motivation Model, we expressed learning motivation in terms of three factors: “interest in the class,” “usefulness of the class for the future,” and “level of expectation (degree of satisfaction) with the class. The company is also working on a new project to develop a new product. It is also clear that the estimation performance of motivation to learn can be significantly improved by considering the optimal combination of these three factors. Currently, we are developing a system to feed back the results of a questionnaire that distinguishes differences in willingness to learn to the instructors in charge of the classes, and verifying the effectiveness of the system.
Future Perspective
- Improvement of the functionality of the developed motivation estimation system
- In order to put the proposed method into practice, we will feed back the results of the analysis to those who need to understand the results of the class questionnaire, such as teachers in charge of classes and those in charge of support for study, and verify the effectiveness of the developed system.
- Analyze the combination of willingness to learn, grades, and free response.
